Revelation 22:14 — Only Those Who Do God’s Commandments Enter the Holy City
Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
This verse destroys every antinomian doctrine ever invented.
It is one of the clearest statements in all of Scripture:
Only those who do the commandments of God have the right to eternal life.
Only those who keep the Law may enter the holy city.
Salvation is not given to those who “believe” while continuing in occasional sin.
Nor to those who rely on a faith without holiness.
Nor to those who claim Christ while refusing obedience.
The blessing belongs exclusively to those who do God’s commandments —
those who live in total holiness without sin,
those who walk in purity of heart,
those who maintain their garments undefiled before God.
Salvation Is the Fruit of Active Obedience in Victorious Sanctification
Revelation consistently teaches that salvation requires:
white robes,
purified garments,
clean linen,
perfect righteousness,
and faithful obedience to the divine Law.
Revelation 19:8
“Fine linen, clean and bright, was given to her to wear for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.”
These “righteous acts” do not appear magically.
They are the result of personal responsibility,
cooperation with God’s grace,
and a life of victorious sanctification without sin.
Sanctification is not passive.
Holiness is not optional.
Obedience is not symbolic.
It is the path to eternal life.
“Washed Robes” Means a Life of Purity and Obedience
Revelation 22:14 also says:
“Blessed are they that wash their robes…”
This “washing” is not a one-time event at conversion.
It represents a lifelong purification,
a continual cleansing through obedience, repentance, vigilance, and holiness.
Those who wash their robes are:
those who resist sin,
those who crucify the flesh,
those who keep themselves pure,
those who do not stain their garments,
those who live by the Law of God every day.
It is not mere belief.
It is a life of constant purity, producing ripe fruit for the final harvest.
**Revelation 22:14 Proclaims an Eternal Truth:
Only the Commandment-Keepers Enter the Kingdom**
This verse fits perfectly into the entire biblical logic:
Obedience leads to life (Proverbs 7:2, Ezekiel 20:11).
The doers of the Law will be justified (Romans 2:13).
If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments (Matthew 19:17).
Without holiness no one will see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14).
Therefore:
The Law of God saves.
The Law of God grants access to the Tree of Life.
The Law of God opens the gates of the heavenly city.
Those who do the commandments are the only ones declared blessed by Jesus.
There is no salvation outside of total obedience and complete holiness.
The Law of God Is the Gate to Eternal Life
Revelation 22:14 announces a final, eternal truth:
Those who keep the commandments will enter the New Jerusalem.
Those who obey God’s Law receive the right to the Tree of Life.
Those who live in holiness will see the Kingdom.
No doctrine, no movement, no theology can erase this divine decree.
The Law of God remains the saving path.
And only those who walk in it in perfect purity will enter the city of God.
