Genesis 4:7 Sin lies at the door of your heart but you rule over it
If you are exposed to temptations, you also have the ability to overcome them. For it is necessary for you to make a choice (to refuse or accept); and if you have a choice, it means that you have the possibility of not sinning.
If the temptation turns into sin, it means that the unrighteous desire or the evil action has overcome your ability to resist sin . There is therefore no fatalistic determinism indicating that you will necessarily sin sooner or later.
3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers
In the Christian life, it is crucial to reject with determination everything that can provoke lust, because it constitutes a real threat to the spiritual life. The lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16) are subtle temptations that, if welcomed, can destroy the spiritual life. Lust acts as a poison, drawing the soul to desires contrary to God’s will, and causing it to seek immediate pleasures instead of purity and obedience.
Jesus Himself teaches in the Sermon on the Mount the importance of radically turning away from sin, stating that it is better to pluck out the eye or cut off the hand that causes stumbling, than to let sin destroy the spiritual life. (Matthew 5:29-30)
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world . And the world passes away and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
The lusts of the eyes, the flesh, and the pride of life represent profound spiritual obstacles that can compromise not only our relationship with God but also our eternal destiny;
By tolerating lust, the soul is drawn into a spiral of insatiable desires that draw away from God and obscure spiritual discernment. Instead, rejecting these temptations through active discipline and constant vigilance keeps us on the path to complete holiness without sin.
This struggle to resist worldly desires is a call to sanctify our thoughts, actions, and intentions in order to remain faithful. For ultimately, a life victorious over lust is a testimony to our love for God, our commitment to purity, and our desire to live in accordance with His will.
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man . But God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
My responsibility is to be in accordance with God’s Law and to practice righteousness daily. This depends on my free will; I do not sin as long as I keep sin out of my heart, because I know God’s law.
If I allow temptation to enter into me, it reveals a persistent love for sin , no matter how small. This is extremely dangerous, because even 0.1% of attachment to sin can separate me from God and lead me to spiritual death. My love for God must be absolute, 100%, and this total love must reduce to nothing any inclination towards temptations, which will thus be destroyed by the love of God.
I must be firm and founded on the rock (Jesus Christ as well as the guiding voice of the Spirit of God in order to be unshakable and without sin.
Matthew 7:24-25 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house: and it fell not, because it was founded upon a rock.
For me, sin is not the norm. Any serious Christian does not waste time wondering if he might sin occasionally in the future . On the contrary, a Christian, filled with the love of God, seeks to be conformed to the Law, without sin.
He does not live according to the flesh to fulfill the desires of the flesh, but according to the Spirit, in order to fulfill the will of God. God is faithful to forgive past sins, thus making it possible to live a life without sin, as a token of gratitude for his grace and mercy.
Romans 6:12-14 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye obey it in its lusts. And neither yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin; but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead; and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, because ye are not under the law, but under grace.
It is not God’s will for a Christian to sin willfully or occasionally.
If the experience of others deviates from God’s Word and His will, that is none of my business. I do not rely on their experiences, but focus on God’s will, which is that we never sin willfully on earth. I am firmly convinced that living without sin is possible, because our free will is regenerated and the have the Holy Spirit and we have the power of God within us. We know God and His Law. It’s si mply a question if believer will listen the guiding voice of Spirit and to work.
John 17:3 eternal life is that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
If human experience shows otherwise, it is because either the person still loves sin, or he is indifferent and negligent in his spiritual life, he has not made the radical decision to be victorious once for all against all temptation.
He who does not see the need to be entirely holy and pure, without sin, is spiritually in danger and risks spiritual death.
Ephesians 1:4 For God hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him…
Being assailed by carnal desire, the sexual urges that arise in thoughts and imaginations, is played out in a fraction of a second. The battle is between your will and those perverse thoughts or imaginations that arise within you, pushing you to commit sin. However, they need your agreement, your will. Without your consent, they cannot enter you.
Thus, if you indulge in acts such as masturbation, viewing pornography, or any form of sexual immorality, it is because you have allowed these iniquitous imaginations and thoughts to take hold, in order to feed this iniquitous desire and satisfy the thirst of the evil urge. This also reveals an inner seduction: you let yourself be seduced, because you always have within you an attachment to the sin in question.
Matthew 5:27-28 You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Involuntary thoughts and imaginations can arise without conscious reflection. As long as they remain in this initial unconsciousness, there is no sin yet. But as soon as these thoughts and imaginations are transformed into conscious will, it becomes a sin, and this sin leads to spiritual death.
In a second or two, in this involuntary state, the victorious Christian triumphs by casting away involuntary imaginations or an unintentional glance. But if they are not cast away, or stifle, there is danger of sharpening : the involuntary can quickly be transformed into voluntary consciousness under the pull of temptation, in three, four, or five seconds, for man has allowed himself to be intentionally overwhelmed. If your heart is firm and resolved to do the will of God, you will not sin despite the allurement of temptation. The battle is in the thoughts. My heart, my regenerated will, allows no shadow of sin to enter into me. My conscience does not allow itself to be hypnotized by temptation. This is living by the Spirit of God and not fulfilling the desires of the flesh.
1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims on the earth, abstain from fleshly lusts , which war against the soul.
Watch your eyes carefully when you are in a crowd, in public places or on the street. If you notice that a temptation to lust with your eyes is manifesting itself, look away, lower your eyes, close your eyes , ” tear out your eyes ” ” as Jesus says in Matthew 5. Do everything to avoid fixing your eyes on a woman or an object that could represent a temptation, because it can be dangerous.
And above all, watch over your thoughts and imaginations; chase them away, stifle from the first seconds of their appearance, before they sharpen and become voluntary thoughts or imaginations. Do not let them settle in your heart, under the effect of the hypnosis of temptation.
In this way, you will be able to gain victory over sexual temptations, lust, but also over other temptations such as anger, pride, jealousy, gluttony, bitterness, grudge, and greed. By practicing this, you will constantly produce the fruit of complete holiness without sin, and you will have eternal life as your end, provided that you remain steadfast in the path of victory until the end of your earthly life.
Genesis 4:7 Surely, if you do well, you will lift up your face; and if you do evil, sin will lie down at the door, and its desire will be for you; but you shall rule over it. Remember: before temptation can achieve its goal of leading to spiritual death, that is, to sin, it must confront your will, your heart. Sin lies at the door of your heart. Says Genesis 4:7. The latter is put to the test so that you can choose between good, the will of God, and evil, sin.
John Wesley, Sermon 41, Wandering Thoughts
If our fellow-men, by acting in various ways upon our senses, succeed in diverting our thoughts from the subject which occupied them, we are nevertheless innocent; for it is no more a sin to perceive the things which we see or hear (and which often we cannot help but hear, see and understand), than it is a sin to have eyes and ears.
“But,” someone will say, “if the devil inspires me with wandering thoughts, are they not guilty?” They are annoying, and in that sense they are bad; but they are not guilty. I do not know whether Satan spoke to Jesus in a voice perceptible to the ear, or whether it was only to his spirit that he addressed himself when he said to him: “All these things will I give you, if you fall down and worship me” (Matt. 4:9).
But whether he spoke to him outwardly or inwardly, it is certain that our Lord understood what he was saying to him. And he necessarily had a thought in connection with these words. But was this thought guilty? We know that it was not; for there was no sin in him, either in thought, word, or deed .
Nor is there sin in a thousand and one thoughts of the same kind that Satan can suggest to each of the disciples of Jesus.
Only then, when we lie in the dust, shall we be delivered from all the wandering thoughts which the things we see or hear among those around us here below brought to us. To escape these thoughts, we must go out of the world; for so long as we remain in it, so long as there are men and women around us, and so long as we have eyes to see and ears to hear, the things which we see and hear daily will act upon our minds, and more or less they will mingle with the course of our thoughts to interrupt them.
And so long as evil spirits prowl about in this tormented and miserable world, they will not fail to assail all who are “partakers of flesh and blood” ( Heb . 2:14), whether they can overcome them or not. Those whom they cannot destroy, they will trouble; if they cannot overcome them, they will not cease to attack them. And in regard to these attacks from our ever-active, untiring enemies, let us not expect to be entirely delivered from them until we are “where the wicked trouble no man, and the weary have rest.” (Job 3:17) ».
Let us summarize. To hope to be delivered from the wandering thoughts that evil spirits suggest to us would be to hope that the devil would die, or that he would fall asleep, or at least that he would cease to “circle around us like a roaring lion” (1 Pet. 5:8): To hope to be delivered from the thoughts that our fellow men give birth to in us would be to hope that all men would disappear from the earth, or that we could isolate ourselves completely from them and no longer have anything to do with them; or again it would be to hope that we would have eyes and not see, that we would have ears and not hear, that we would be as insensitive as stones or pieces of wood.
To ask to be delivered from the thoughts of which our body is the occasion, is to ask to leave this body; otherwise, it is to ask impossible and absurd things; It is to pray to God to do contradictory things, to remove the natural and necessary consequences of the union of the soul with a corruptible body, while allowing this union to subsist. It is as if we were asking to be men and angels at the same time, both mortal and immortal. No! for what is mortal to disappear, what is immortal must have come.
Rather, let us ask God, “in the spirit and with understanding” (1 Cor. 14:15), “that all these things may work together for good” ( Rom . 8:28), and that we may endure all the infirmities of our nature, all the disturbances caused to us by men, all the assaults and suggestions of evil spirits, and “in all these things be more than conquerors” ( Rom . 8:37). Let us ask to be delivered from all sin, and that it may not remain root or branch; that we may be “cleansed from all filthiness of the flesh and s pirit” (2 Cor. 7:1), from every evil thought, word, or deed; that we may “love the Lord our God with all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our strength, and with all our mind” (Luke 10:27). » that all « the fruits of the Spirit » are found in us, not only « charity, joy, peace », but also « patience, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, goodness, self-control (Gal 5:22) ».
Yes, let us pray to God to make all these things flourish, abound and multiply more and more in us, until “an entrance may be granted to us fully into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Pet. 1:11).”
When you are enlightened by the revelation of God’s will , it is not a matter of remaining indifferent or hesitant in the face of temptation . If you hesitate, it means that your heart is not firmly established in the Law of God and in the Spirit of God, and that there persists a form of partiality or attraction to evil . Do not abuse the grace of God by persisting in impurity.
Wage war against your sin, and be determined in this fight. This war can and must be victorious to keep your salvation alive. Be always on your guard against sins. Watch your thoughts and imaginations, be responsive whenever a temptation towards evil presents itself in your thoughts, because it is a merciless war against seductive passions. from the flesh and evil tendencies. Guard your heart with all diligence, for it is yours for eternal life . Whenever temptation comes to your mind, it must confront your decision: the choice you will make in the face of temptation.
The danger to be avoided at all costs is not to let your will be seduced under the hypnosis of temptation. Jesus gave His life so that you could live a life victorious over sin . He justifies us from our willful sins by forgiving us and giving us the Holy Spirit to educate and instruct us to live a life without sin. Paul calls this “ walking and living by the Spirit .” ” a process closely related to the baptism of the Holy Spirit . It is essential to adopt a warrior mentality, determined to win victory over every temptation and sin. Hate evil and do not let any temptation seduce your heart or your will . Guard your thoughts and imaginations on all sides, because a weakness can let sin enter your heart.
Man is constantly exposed to temptations that arouse in him the desire to do evil: pornography, masturbation, fornication, lust, anger, pride, bitterness, grudge, hatred, jealousy, greed, gluttony, etc. Everyone is tempted by specific immoderate desires – perversion, sexual immorality, smoking, alcohol, gambling, anger, hatred, vulgarity, disrespectful behavior, etc. that lure him into lust and lead him into sin. The devil’s lie is that in these pleasures or behavior lies satisfaction.
The more you conform to the Law of God out of love, the more evil dispositions diminish accordingly . The more you watch and control your thoughts and imaginations, the more the fleshly appetites accumulated in the past fade away, and you acquire the power of complete mastery . The more you grow in holiness without sin, the more your strength increases, and the fruits of the Spirit become ripe, the end of your work will be eternal life with God. Be careful not to allow even the tiniest particle of temptation to enter your conscious mind by sharpening them.
This could have dramatic consequences for your spiritual life if you allow yourself to be seduced. Behind every temptation is a sin, and behind every sin is a lie and death.
The more you stay connected to God in prayer and in a filial relationship, the more you nourish and solidify your reconciliation with the heavenly Father, and the more you will progress in faith and complete holiness without sin.
Prayer helps to maintain and strengthen your heart in the face of this sinful world, the trials you may go through and the temptations to which you risk being exposed.
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God, and the Spirit of God bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Thanks to this, we can approach him with courage and serenity, knowing that he is our Father who listens to us, provided, of course, that we live in conformity with his Law.
As Jesus reminds us in John 17:3, This is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
Jeremiah 9:24 reinforces this idea: knowing God is the source of our strength and victory.
The strength of the Christian to be victorious and unwavering in the face of temptations lies in obedience to the Law of God, done with joy and exaltation.
If you periodically or occasionally fall back into a sin, it means that there is still in you a seed of that sin that has not been completely dug up and uprooted. It also means that it happens that periodically, your heart, your will, delights in giving in to temptation. In true Christians, this does not happen. Speaking of conscious sins and leaving aside unconscious deeds of the body for the little children in Christ who are called to grow and understand the norm in Christ.
You must still eliminate, burn that trace that still makes you fall into sin, in order to lead a life of authentic holiness and pleasing to God, to obtain eternal life. One cannot serve two masters: sin, even occasional, or holiness. One must choose one or the other. In a congual relationship , infidelity, even just one , is a destructive act. How much for God then.
1 John 3:6-10 Whoever abides in him does not sin; whoever sins has not seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you . He who does righteousness is righteous, just as he is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil . Whoever is born of God does not commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God . By this we can tell who is the son of God and who is the son of the devil.
A good tree, a true Christian, cannot bear bad fruit, that is, commit sin. Either it bears good fruit complete, mature holiness or it bears none at all in which case it is cut down and thrown into the fire.
This fundamental distinction between the eradication and the mastery of sinful desires and impulses is important. From a biblical and spiritual perspective, the regeneration of the soul, although it profoundly transforms the heart and mind of man, does not eliminate the inclinations of the flesh that continue to reside in him.
These carnal desires, these impulses towards what displeases God, remain and constitute a permanent struggle for the regenerated soul . The complete eradication of these desires does not occur in the present life. This is why it is said that the spiritual life is not an existence without temptations, but a life without sin, a victory life over them.
The mastery and control of desires, then, is the heart of the Christian walk: the Spirit of God dwells in man to provide him with the wisdom, strength, and constancy to tame those impulses that might otherwise overwhelm and take over. It is an active process, where the soul, through the power of divine grace, learns to discern, resist, and reject impulses that are not in accordance with God’s law. This control is not automatic but involves constant vigilance, fidelity to the Spirit, and a conscious effort to keep one’s heart and thoughts directed toward the will of God.
1 John 5:3-4 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, because whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith.
So when a temptation, an unrighteous thought or imagination suddenly arises in our minds in a split second, we must then make a decisive choice, whether in one second, two, three or four. In that short span of time, are you led by the Spirit or by the flesh?
As long as you do not allow temptation to take root and grow in your thoughts and imagination, it does not turn into sin. However, if temptation persists and keeps coming back, it may reveal an underlying desire that deep down you want temptation to turn into sin. This hesitation shows a form of spiritual instability. This behavior is dangerous because the character of the Christian must be firm , resolute and uncompromising in the face of temptation.
The fractions of a second when we face temptation as soon as it manifests itself are decisive in demonstrating the solidity of our spiritual commitment.
Split seconds involve facing temptation and confronting it as
soon as it arises , with its instinctual attractions in consciousness and imagination.
What is most important is not to be afraid to face temptation when it arises in consciousness. On the contrary, one must dominate, be in a position of strength in the face of instinctual attractions, show intrepidity, strength and courage . Being in a position of strength is the key to all definitive solutions, because it allows you to control the situation and know the limits not to be crossed. If you are in a position of strength, then you are the happiest, my friend, because you will be victorious in the face of instinctual attractions without committing sin, because the rejection of temptations will become automatic, a holy lifestyle without sin.
Romans 8:13-14 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if you through the Spirit put to death the deeds of the body, you will live, for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are sons of God.
The three-second rule:
1. Appearance of temptation in the conscience.
2. Perception of temptation in consciousness.
3. Rejection of temptation in conscience.
For the Christian, it usually stops at three seconds, because this time is enough to make the choice not to sin. But beyond three, four seconds , that is to say five, six, seven seconds, the temptation is likely to turn into sin through seduction, leading to spiritual death . Thus, the three-second rule is crucial, because it allows one to remain in a position of strength. By respecting this rule, one maintains one’s salvation and one does not sin.
One should never neglect or underestimate a fraction of a glance, a moment of sudden thought or a sudden imagination. Conscience is the place of appearance, perception, and decision-making in the face of temptations . If a thought or image is simple, good, and in accordance with God’s will, you can conceive of it, that is, accept it and let it enter your heart. But if it is demonic, sinful, or perverse, you must reject it , no matter what it is. The Holy Spirit is there to point out and direct you, helping you distinguish good from evil in sudden and abrupt thoughts. This is called the baptism of the Holy Spirit or being leads by the Spirit.
Romans 8:9 you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Conscience is therefore the place where temptation manifests itself and stops. Temptation in conscience is not a sin in itself. It draws a line not to be crossed between will and temptation. This is the precise point where you must react immediately, uncompromisingly and firmly, without dwelling on the seductive aspect of temptation . This becomes dangerous and can lead to spiritual death when this boundary is crossed. However, in Christians this does not happen because the Spirit remains in the heart, that is, in the will, where he reigns permanently. This is why the Christian no longer sins at all. The real question then is: who reigns in you?
John 14:23-24 If anyone loves me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our abode with him . He that loveth me not keepeth not my words.
Carnal desires must be mortified at their first manifestation, acting with lightning speed to strike down temptations in all their forms. Temptation becomes sin when the will of man gives its deliberate consent. In the Christian, temptation is stifled from its appearance . His will is never crossed because he lives by the Spirit and listens to His voice. He keeps his will as an insurmountable and impenetrable shield, which is the source of his strength not to sin.
The new birth does not eradicate temptations and sinful desires. These remain after regeneration. However, this new birth is about no longer sinning at all, because it gives the Christian the ability to control and dominate these temptations by being in a position of strength in the face of them.
The Christian’s victory must, among other things, be manifested against the sinful tendencies, memories, passions, attractions, and imaginations that have accumulated and stored in the long-term memory. These phenomena are the result of the past life in sin, and they continue to wage war against Christians by relying on the sinful carnal passions.
The Christian must be in a position of strength and dominate the appearances of these iniquitous memories and imaginations in his conscience. It is essential to understand that temptation, as well as fleeting thoughts or imaginations, are not sin in themselves. The sight of an unwholesome image in the consciousness or imagination is not evidence of sin. Sin is the willful transgression of God’s law.
The question, then, is: What do you do with that sight when you see an unwholesome image? Do you accept it or do you reject it? This decision must be quick, almost instantaneous, with the speed of lightning. The three-second rule applies here: if you delay making the decision beyond that time, it may indicate a certain instability or lukewarmness, signs that you are not firm and uncompromising two essential qualities of the victorious Christian.
Romans 6:6-7 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin: for he that is dead is freed from sin…
Many believers blame themselves, thinking that seeing an unhealthy image in their conscience is proof that they have sinned. Many then fall into the trap of fatalism and defeatism.
The proof that temptation turns into sin is in compromise: an agreement or seduction between the will, the heart, and the impulsive attraction that assails the will . This does not happen in the true new born Christian, for he is in a position of strength, having crucified the flesh with its desires and passions . He walks in newness of life in complete holiness, seeking to please his heavenly Father.
Remember that the gaze of the eye can imprint images and moments from the past into long-term memory.
The demons, with their intelligence, cunning and know-how, have understood this well. That is why, since the beginning of the 2000s, they have introduced a multitude of perversities and abominations through the Internet and clothing, plunging humanity into an abyss . They know perfectly well that what strikes the eye creates an attraction, a seduction, a mental shock.
That is why it is crucial to be careful where you fix your gaze. In everyday life, in the world dominated by the reign of the devil, the influences of textiles, the Internet, superficiality and immodest clothing fuel a real cult of appearance, or rather a “cult of death” of the body, through revealing and provocative accoutrements.
It may happen that on the outside, the gaze accidentally falls on something provocative, but the Christian must immediately reposition his gaze according to the norm.
The penitent sinner, who has become a Christian, enters into a fierce war where he must remain extremely vigilant in his conscience in the face of pornographic images or other forms of images accumulated in the visual memory of his past life. However, despite this, the Christian remains victorious and unwavering in the face of these temptations which will inevitably come to assail his will.
By sanctifying grace and his regenerated and illuminated capacity, the Christian has the power to live without sin, which is his responsibility in order to be pleasing to God, the ultimate goal sought by conformity to the divine law and the aspiration to eternal life. Any reaction of instability or hesitation in the heart, that is, in the will, is a sign of lukewarmness and often leads to failure and spiritual death. Such a state does not reflect the standard of entire and complete holiness without sin.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant. Because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour.
The true Christian, having experienced the new birth, sins no more. He who is born of God sees temptation coming, but does not give in, because he loves God and has built his house (body, soul, and spirit) on the rock. His desire is to honor God and please Him by remaining in conformity with the moral law in deeds, words, thoughts, and imaginations. He who is not a Christian sees the temptation coming and immediately
yields to it, captivated by the seduction of sin.
His understanding is darkened, his conscience wounded, and his thoughts and imaginations are subjected to seduction like a man under hypnosis.
Are you a tree bearing one fruit, the fruit of complete holiness? Or do you periodically produce bad fruit? A good tree cannot bear bad fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire… ( Matthew 7:19 )
The iniquitous tendencies, thoughts, and imaginations that suddenly, abruptly, unexpectedly, and fleetingly manifest themselves in the conscience, and that lead to sinful action, are the result of the presence of the flesh, of the passions and desires that prompt the gratification of these desires.
This struggle persists in the newly born Christian, sometimes overwhelming the soul. The flesh wages war against your true “ you ,” against your spirit regenerated and illuminated by the law of God and by the Holy Spirit. The Christian has crucified his desires and desires, keeping them in perpetual suffering in a state of mortification.
The Christian, in a position of strength against the flesh, passions and sinful desires, must immediately suppress every unrighteous thought as soon as it suddenly manifests itself according to the three-second rule so that it does not intensify and turn into sin through seduction or attraction. If this temptation intensifies beyond four seconds, this indicates the beginning of a seduction of the will, a sign that it could be giving way, which does not characterize a born-again Christian.
Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
To feel a desire or to see an unwholesome image in the imagination is not in itself a sin, but reveals the persistence of the flesh and sinful passions that tempt to sin. The born-again and regenerated Christian is always victorious over these tendencies and the presence of the flesh, because he has forged a firm and tenacious mentality.
Unshakable, he has built his house (body, soul, and spirit) on the rock, is baptized with the Holy Spirit, and is led by the Spirit. Thus, he has the ability to live without sin, working with the Holy Spirit to achieve complete holiness without sin in deed, word, thought, imagination, and behavior.
A true Christian does not dwell on whether he will sin in the future or whether he will sin occasionally. What happens if he does? The standard, according to God, is never to sin, no matter what circumstances he may face throughout his life . This victorious mentality must be the foundation of his new life. The Christian guards and will guard his heart above all else until the end of his life, for from it flows life.
This is the divine standard. This is the teaching that conforms to the interpretation according to God’s heart and to reason.
We are married to Christ, as a faithful and loving wife to her husband. Can she be an adulteress, occasionally or periodically? Certainly not, not even one time !
Ephesians 5:27 that he might present it to himself in glory, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish
Yet, the followers of lying and sectarian movements have invented a “grace” in Christ that legitimizes future, occasional sins.
The law of God in the heart of man maintains the salvation received through the forgiveness of sins in Jesus Christ and leads to a permanently holy and a life without sin, consequently, it has a salvific role. (Matthew 19:17) and I say this for those who, influenced by these deceptive sects, have annulled, despised, blasphemed the law under the pretext of faith, thus falling into the traps of the devil. This is addressed to those who commit sins periodically or occasionally and who wrongly imagine that this state is that of the Christian in Christ.
1 John 3:9 “He who is born of God sins NO MORE”
What part of “MORE” is not understandable?
Sin, like an infection, spreads and degrades the interior of man, defiling his heart without his even being aware of it.
Why? Because his spirit is not connected to the Spirit of God. This is called regeneration, a fundamental notion of soteriology. When it is connected, he can measure the danger through the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The best treatment for the soul is conformity to the law of God, that is, walking and living by the Spirit, being forgiven by the Blood of Jesus. Guarding one’s heart and will, watching them constantly, is the best attitude to remain victorious, perpetually and continually, without sinning .
In the sectarian and deviant movements of Christianity, the word “law” has a negative and constraining connotation. This word resonates so badly that the followers of these movements try to ignore and underestimate it. It creates shock and embarrassment for them. It seems that they fear to open the pages of Psalm 119 or to listen to the words of Jesus: “If you would enter into life, keep the commandments”
(Matthew 19:16) and Luke 10:25-26 And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it ?”. These divine words are the law of God, the moral law of commandments. In John 17:17, Jesus prays: “Sanctify them through your truth: your word is truth.”
Proverbs 28:9 He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.
The lying antinomian movements of Christianity think that when we say “one must conform to God’s law” or “obey the moral commandments to be saved,” we are seeking our own glory or merit, that we are proud, boastful, or denying the atonement through Jesus’ sacrifice. However , this thinking is totally false; anyone who holds it is in error. What we are seeking is to please God, out of love for Him. This is our aim and our goal. Eternal life is the natural effect of this state of living in complete and complete holiness by the Law and by the guiding voice of Holy Spirit in deed, word, thought, imagination, and behavior adequate to God’s standards. Since when is pleasing God a boast? We seek no glory or credit for ourselves.
All glory and credit go to Jesus Christ for His work on the cross. As we are forgiven by the blood of Jesus, our desire is to be conformed to God’s law, in a state pleasing to God. We recognize that this state preserves eternal life, but eternal life is not our ultimate goal. There is no room for compromise or for toleration of occasional sins.
This is not about doing good works of mercy or charity, even if they contribute to justification; they do not directly involve salvation. (Book of James)
The essential role for salvation lies in faith and the law. The goal is to preserve our being our actions, words, thoughts, imaginations and behavior – from sin, because it is this that involves salvation and determines our destiny, while being forgiven by the Blood of Jesus.
It is not for Christians to declare themselves worthy; one should not even have this idea or this thought. The Christian must remain in humility, without attributing to himself a dignity, but remembering the work of redemption that Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross. All dignity and all merit belong to Him forever.
This must be the first thought, before all personal righteousness and complete holiness. To Him be the glory .
Faith in the Blood of Jesus forgives and saves on condition of abandonment of sins in repentance, with the decision to sin no more.
Conformity to the law of commandments in deed, word, thought, imagination, and proper behavior according to God’s standards maintains initial salvation, and is therefore vital and salutary for the final race. The forgiveness of sins through the Blood of Jesus is by grace, unmerited, and God’s law maintains that forgiveness. Therefore, it plays a protective role in salvation.
Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
For Luther and Calvin, the blood of Jesus is used by the believer after each sin committed, as a systematic point of return. This is an insult to Jesus’ work of redemption. Modern false movements that call themselves Christian follow this erroneous belief and have fallen into the destructive traps of the devil.
Augustine and Calvin, as well as Luther, taught that as long as we are in the flesh, it is impossible to attain a state without sin. Luther even held that sin humbles us, claiming that we would constantly need Jesus’ atonement for our sins. Augustine, on the other hand, developed the theory of the sinful nature during his spiritual life, because he could not detach himself from his sexual sins and was constantly attracted to them.
The devil’s lie is, ” You shall not surely die. ” It is not surprising, then, that these lying movements, which claim to be the Church of God and Christianity, hold a similar discourse: ” You shall not die, even if you sin occasionally .” They teach that you have an advocate anyway with the Father who forgives you every time you confess your sins . “Jesus died for you, and you have the certainty of eternal life if you believe.”
This sophistical rhetoric, with all its lies, flatters and soothes the conscience, making people believe that it is not serious to sin periodically and that one will be saved in spite of everything.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 But the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts, having itching ears, they will heap to themselves teachers; and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will be turned aside unto fables.
Men internalize this lie by normalizing sin throughout their lives, developing a pattern of indulgence, moderation, and lukewarmness toward holiness. They adopt a Christianremains-a-sinner mentality, lulling those who attend their meetings into the dark abyss of destructive deception. The historic Christianity of Calvinism, Lutheranism, and Augustinianism teaches these lying heresies. Unfortunately, the Catholic Church has largely adopted the destructive doctrine of Augustine of Hippo and has appropriated its principles over the centuries.
The devil has worked to cover up the truth with a romantic, rhetorical, seductive, defeatist and fatalistic lie. But the King of kings will have the last word, because his saints, his faithful and his righteous. Those who love him with all their hearts are often marginalized, persecuted and rejected by the socalled Christian churches.
They are called legalists, Pharisees, deniers of the atonement of Christ, pride, boastful or those who try to save themselves. May all glory be given to God if we are persecuted by these sects, because it is better to belong to the tiny minority faithful to the holy doctrine than to the majority fallen into the destructive lies of the devil. God looks at the willing heart for being holy and without sin not the endless quantities of those who don’t believe .
In the bizarre, cultish, and lying movements, the words and sentence structures concerning sin are softened and altered so as not to offend the audience, so as to make the message sound as pleasant as possible, thus lulling people into occasional sins. Under the illusion of salvation by faith in Christ, the seriousness of sin is softened, minimized, and allowed to fester in the heart. “You are children of God in every way, saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. You have the assurance of eternal life, even though you have struggles in your life, because God loves you.” Thus is spread the lying heresy of eternal security by faith alone, and the dominant romantic rhetoric of these contemporary lying and deviant movements.
They fear to hurt someone, to judge. In their minds nobody can be holy because they are sinful. To walk in the Spirit, in entire and complete holiness, without sin—neither in deed, nor in word, nor in thought, nor in imagination, nor in evil and unruly conduct on earth. This is the standard, and this is what I will defend to the last breath of my life by teaching “the heart of the Father.” He who is of the truth will acknowledge this teaching. Indeed, Christ is the author of eternal salvation to those who obey Him.
Hebrews 9:5 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him…
Modern lying movements that claim to be Christian churches often preach holiness to appear orthodox and to make people believe that they are professing holiness. But in reality, they adopt a mediocre and ambiguous approach to holiness, tinged with moderation and disguise. Although under a puritanical appearance, they always leave a gap open, a tolerance for occasional sin.
They advocate a compassionate weakness where Jesus sympathizes with their repeated failures, using the grace of Jesus as an advocate for their future sins. They play with fire without realizing that it consumes them. Caught in the devil’s net, they are blind to their own condition. In the perception of these lying and sectarian movements, the most important thing is to keep the faith, which alone, according to them, ensures final salvation.
Everything revolves around faith, reduced to the act of believing, and for them, holiness becomes optional, in their mind, holiness is the evidence of salvation , but it can’t be never without sin, never complete, according their saying, it is the evidence of faith, if so, it must be pure, without sin, rooted in faith giving genuine fruit of ripe holiness. They leave a door open to occasional and periodic sin, lulling themselves into the illusion that they will be without sin in heaven.
Do they realize that the salvation start on earth and with the holiness without sin , the atoning work of Jesus covers past sins and that it only takes effect when man no longer sins , but walks in complete holiness without leaving room for sin, neither in deeds, nor in words, nor in thoughts, nor in imaginations, nor in his outward behavior.
Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
A passionate zeal for the defense of holy doctrine and for complete holiness, the firm defense of God’s law, are perceived as pride in these movements. According to their fallacious rhetoric, one should be humble and admit one’s weaknesses.
In these movements, defending morality, advocating complete holiness, or expressing zeal for God’s law is often frowned upon. Exposing sins is avoided for fear of judgment or awakening conscience to the gravity of sins. Adherents are so indoctrinated in antinomianism, preaching salvation by faith alone, that they imagine that if they obey God’s commandments, they will try to save themselves.
Philippians 2:15 that you may be blameless and harmless, children of God without rebuke in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
According to their dogmas, obedience and holiness is supposed to prove that they are saved by faith. But if this obedience were really the natural and automatic fruit of faith, then it would be pure, mature, without sin and entire, in complete holiness, as God desires . But in these lying movements, this will never be possible on earth. So they don’t believe in the power of Holy Spirit to do that.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
According to their delusion, they believe that they have eternal security through faith in Christ, because, for them a obedience in complete holiness without sin on earth is impossible.
They therefore imagine that their obedience will always remain partial, marked by falls and sins, and they believe that Jesus obeyed in their place completely, that he paid everything. They also believe that the law is beyond their natural capacity to observe it fully.
This lying theory develops in them a defeatist mentality, an indolent, fatalistic, and lukewarm state of mind, leading to a destroyed spiritual life, full of falls and failures attributed to a supposed weakness. It is a vicious circle of sin, where everything is reduced to the simple fact of believing, thus securing, according to them, a place in the kingdom of God.
For them, holiness is either optionel or automatic and naturel but incomplete and sinful, and more and less with the participation of man, for they regard salvation as being completed by faith in Christ alone. This lie is hidden in a sophism that mixes some partial truths with a fatal deception. In their sectarian and lying thinking, seeking to live without sin or to pursue God’s law is, according to them, equivalent to denying the redemptive work of Jesus.
In their view, sin continues to be a part of the life of Christians until death, and they believe that they are totally exempt and pure only after death, in heaven. In the meantime, they tolerate occasional and various sins without feeling any necessity to wage war once for all to be without sin.
The devil, cunning, has introduced this pernicious venom since the fourth century, starting with Augustine, then Luther and Calvin, and finally these modern and professing Christian movements. These lying and sectarian movements have developed a system of endless confession of sins on earth, ignoring that the will of the Father is a radical and firm decision to abandon sins once and for all, completely, to walk in complete holiness, without sin in deed, word, thought, imagination, and in behavior in conformity with the law of God.
The true holiness, inward and outward, that God seeks, is not a disguised and mediocre holiness that leaves room for occasional sins as the followers of these lying movements believe.
2 Peter 2:1-3 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who shall privily bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their licentious ways, and the way of truth shall be evil spoken of through them.
Through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with deceitful words: whose condemnation is of a long time, and whose destruction slumbereth not.
If according to them, it is God who works in them to transform them, but this transformation, according to their belief, is not accomplished in a complete way here below, on earth. They believe that God chooses to carry out this transformation in an incomplete way during earthly life. In their vision, God, through his Holy Spirit, cannot accomplish a perfect work in them now. For them, this will only happen in what they call “glorification” after death.
So the Creator of perfection couldn’t do the perfect work of sinlessness in their life according to them, can you see how they twist and despise God’s full sanctifying synergic work in man
1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. ὁλοτελεῖς (holoteleîs) –
«completely» or «entirely,» indicating total sanctification, without sin, complete holiness.
Which part of “completely” they don’t understand?
This view reinforces a defeatist idea where sin is tolerated until the end of life, implying that God accepts partial obedience. But the true teaching, according to the Gospel, calls for complete sanctification here below, where the believer is called to live without sin from now on, in full obedience to God’s law through the help of the Holy Spirit.
This is the truth and the disguised lie of their belief.
Although the pernicious doctrinal system of salvation by faith alone is false and destructive in these movements, some members of these groups nevertheless live godly lives, walking in the Spirit, conforming to the law of God and attaining to entire holiness, without sinning, either consciously or unconsciously. In soteriology, words are very important. The salvation and atoning work of Jesus consist in the forgiveness of past sins and moral regeneration, which are absolutely essential and vital for man.
Without this justifying faith, man is banished from the presence of God and His approval. Thus, salvation in Jesus comes through the forgiveness of past sins for the repentant man at the moment of conversion. This salvation takes effect with repentance, that is, the forsaking of sins by a contrite heart that implores grace for the forgiveness of sins.
The flesh and its sinful passions will always be present. It is up to you, your true “spiritual self,” to dominate them. The flesh seeks to satisfy its desires and for this, it needs the agreement of your will. Without this agreement, it will be unable to do anything. This is why it seeks to seduce by attacking the will. It is up to you to have the upper hand, to dominate it and to silence the diabolical seduction.
Be vigilant and attentive, like a guard, watch over and protect your will against the attacks of the flesh. The law of God keeps man alive and ensures his proper spiritual functioning, acting as a protective wall, provided, of course, that man conforms to it out of love. The law of God is the breath of the spiritual lungs, naturally completed by the redemption of past sins through the blood of Jesus.
“Without me you can do nothing,” Jesus said to his disciples, meaning that to fulfill the mission of proclaiming the good news, they could not act without him. Spiritually, this explicitly means that, without the help of his Holy Spirit, we cannot be victorious over sin. Jesus said, “Abide in me, and I in you.” But how can we abide in him?
By remaining attached to the vine, by listening to the voice of the Spirit, by being conformed to his law and by walking in his footsteps. By doing so, we will bear much fruit, genuine ripe fruits of holiness without sin, thus glorifying the Father , and we will remain attached to the vine, living in complete holiness and in communion with God.
Christ laid the foundation of salvation by his crucifixion, atonement, and forgiveness of past sins. He did this so that everyone would complete that foundation by crucifying the flesh, by living in complete holiness, without sin, fully conforming to the law of God.
When Paul says, “You are dead to the law,” in the Epistle to the Romans, he is referring to the condemnation, the curse that accompanies violations of God’s moral law. He is not referring to being exempt from
God’s law; to think so would be foolish and aberrant. In his Epistles, Paul often addresses the Jews of the diaspora who, under ceremonial law and tradition, lived in the Roman Empire.
He speaks of man “under the law” in this context.
Unfortunately, the leaders of the false movements of Christianity, those who supposedly shepherd the flocks, do not preach obedience to the law or complete holiness. They act as if everyone among them is holy, pure and without sin. If this is the case, then glory to God, because it God’s will for it is indeed His will that His kingdom come in the hearts of everyone on earth. Yet, I remain unconvinced of this. Only God knows the heart of each person; however, one can recognize the good and bad fruits by their outward appearance, their behavior, their attitude, their chaste and modest dress, and the doctrine they profess.
Matthew 6:10 Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Many people say with zeal and enthusiasm, “I love the Lord,” but at the same time, they continue to commit occasional sins that they cannot shake off. This love must be true and genuine toward Jesus; otherwise, this declaration is vain and empty.
If the Holy Spirit dwells in you, He will show you what attitudes, behaviors, and actions are not in line with God’s will and His law, so that you can refrain from them. In order to grow, mature, and please God, a child of God will pay attention to this way, directing his will toward that of the Spirit. This is the meaning of “walking by the Spirit,” and you will not fulfill the desires of the flesh, those sinful passions, as Paul explained in his writings.
Knowing the limit of temptation in the imagination and maintaining a serene tranquility in the Spirit will prevent this temptation from entering the .
John 14:15 If you love Me, keep My commandments.
The final victory over temptations and especially sexual temptations rests on several essential points, each playing a crucial role.
1. Realization that this type of sin will always remain an unfulfilled sin.
2. Crucifixion of the flesh: this means the mortification and suffering of sinful desires and passions which seek to assail the will, the heart of the Christian, the reign of the Father.
3. Fiercely hate sinful temptations: this is essential to overcome these temptations at every appearance, because they oppose the Word, the Law and the Will of God.
4. Joyfully accept temptations as an opportunity to glorify God and magnify His Law.
5. Constant monitoring of thoughts and imaginations: this is to ensure that the temptation does not exceed the 3-second rule so as not to linger and not to be hypnotized by its seductive appeal.
6. To be in a position of strength in the face of the attractions and assaults of the flesh in the conscience.
7. Conformity to the Law of the Father in complete holiness, without sin: for the Christian, this is nothing extraordinary, it is the norm, the standard.
Each of these seven steps is crucial. This fierce hatred of sin, especially in point 3, is absolutely necessary to radically abandon sin. Those who say “I can’t, no one is perfect” or
“the flesh is weak” are actually showing that they still love sin.
I do not look at temptation with carnal eyes, but with spiritual eyes. It is a choice, that of adopting an uncompromising mentality, which systematically stifles every manifestation of temptation as soon as it appears in the imagination.
It does not matter how many times it may arise a hundred or a thousand times a day; what matters is the firm and constant decision to stifle it at each occurrence.
For this, it is essential to forge a victorious mentality and never allow the excitement of temptation to become sharpened or to develop. As Paul writes: “If by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the flesh, you will live.”
I defend the normal state of a born-again Christian, forgiven by the blood of Jesus Christ, who lives in complete holiness, without sin at all on earth, who loves God with all his being and walks in the Spirit, who reigns in him by the Law of God in deed, word, thought, imagination, by holy behavior and attitude. These saints, according to the Scriptures and reason, have the assurance of eternal life and are saved.
The experience of men is none of my business, nor their erroneous doctrines.
The heart that wants to serve God makes the total choice of what pleases Him.
Temptation may seem alluring, but if the heart is firmly established in doing the will of God, the person is able to cast temptation out of his heart. Sin finds its root cause in the will. The ability to respond to the will of God is not beyond man’s reach.
The gate is narrow, and the cross may be heavy to bear for one who is overwhelmed by thousands of fleshly temptations, but the final victory is sweet, for Jesus, the King of kings, is at our side. Wide is the gate of seduction and temptation, and many are those who enter through the gate of sin. The law of God, which was given to man, is not beyond his strength. It is the devil’s lie to make us believe that we are weak creatures, unable to stand firm and blameless before God.
Through his Holy Spirit, God will come to our aid: he grants us knowledge, discernment, wisdom, understanding and teaching to teach us how to wage war against sin and always come out victorious. This comes from the God of holiness, who wants us to be holy
1 Peter 1:15-16 As he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all manner of conduct, as it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
Man has his important part in the field of salvation. God has given us a faculty, the will. As a human you have the choice to accept or reject a thought that arises in your imagination (Genesis 4:7)
The lying movements seek by all means to justify a carnal security and to preserve the illusion of a salvation guaranteed only by Faith in Jesus.

Excerpts from sermon 14, John Wesley, Repentance in believers
Sermon 17, John Wesley Circumcision of the Heart, excerpt
It is by the same discipline that every “good soldier of Christ” must harden himself to bear labors; strengthened and fortified by this means, he will be able to renounce not only the works of darkness, but every desire, every affection that is not in conformity with the law of God. For “every one that hath this hope in him,” says St. John, “purifies himself, even as he also is pure.”
He applies himself daily, by the grace of God and by the blood of the covenant, to cleanse the last recesses of his soul from the lusts which possessed and defiled it before; to purify himself from impurity, from envy, from malice, from anger, from every passion or disposition that is according to the flesh, which flows from it or which flatters its corruption; for he knows that his body being the temple of God, he must admit into it nothing profane or impure and that holiness is suitable forever for the dwelling which the Spirit of holiness has deigned to choose.
Sermon 17, Circumcision of the Heart, John Wesley
God wants no other sacrifice from us than the sacrifice of the heart; this is the one he has chosen. Let it be offered to him continually by Christ, in the flames of a holy love. And let no creature be admitted to share it with him: for God is a jealous God. He does not share his throne with another: he wants to reign without a rival. Let no desire, no design be admitted there which does not have God alone for its supreme object.
He who has tasted the heavenly gifts, who has experienced the divine revelation and glimpsed the heavenly glory to come, who has grasped the immensity of the love of God manifested in Jesus Christ, and who cherishes in his mind the eternal joy and happiness promised with Christ and all the saints he who walks continually in pure holiness without sin loves God and His Law.
To him it is unthinkable to return to his past sins, either practically or occasionally. He will never give up the bright treasure of the divine presence for transitory mud. To the genuine, born-again Christian, God and His love become everything: the joy of his heart, the goal of his life, and the source of eternal life.
For a believer who constantly returns to his sins, he has not yet reached the stage of regeneration, but is in a spiritual awakening. He needs to pull himself together, wage a victorious war against temptations, and adopt a mentality of conquest over sin.
His mind, conscience, and reason must be subjected to the Spirit of God to drive out every temptation as soon as it arises in order to not sharpen the alluring desires of sin. No indulgence should be given to seductive temptations, for the goal is total and perpetual obedience to God.
The Spirit must direct our hearts, like a rudder, to steer us toward the will and law of God. It is up to man to listen to this voice and reject the appeals of the flesh and its unrighteous desires. The help of sanctifying grace is precisely this voice of the Spirit, a constant warning that alerts us to danger and teaches us to listen for our own well-being. This is what it means to be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
In the sanctification process of regenerate Christians, some unconscious deeds of the body may still appear, but they must diminish over time. On the other hand, sins considered abominable (sexual immorality, backbiting, mockery, sinful anger mixed with impatience, gluttony, greed, pride, hatred, etc.) cannot remain in a born-again Christian.
Jesus expressed very well that the kingdom of God belongs to those whose hearts are pure and humble, like those of little children, filled with humility and simplicity.
When we recognize that certain temptations, such as sexual ones, can be particularly persistent, there are two options: 1) overcome these desires through a permanent process of crucifying the flesh once and for all, or 2) give in and risk spiritual death. There is no other spiritual alternative that is pleasing to God other than the first.
The vicious cycle of committing occasional sins, confessing them, and then falling again is not characteristic of the bornagain Christian. The standard for a truly regenerated Christian is to no longer sin at all on earth. If a person continues to sin, it means that he is still attached to sin. He is therefore not a regenerated, born-again Christian, but merely an awakened believer, who must still embark on a path of complete transformation and regeneration in order to inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Sin, and more particularly the deviation of depraved sexuality, is like a plant. If it is not radically uprooted, torn out by the will of man who is listening to the voice of the Spirit, it will continually grow back to give satisfaction to the flesh, which leads to eternal death. Victory over sexual temptations can and must be a constant mastery, obtained in the agony of the crucifixion of the flesh, of its sinful desires and passions.
These desires are in pain to die, and as long as they suffer, man does not sin but does the will of the Spirit to live.
A true Christian will never ask himself the question: “What if I sin later, occasionally, how will that happen?” A true Christian will not have this mediocre thought: “I have an evil thought or imagination in me, I might as well act on it, it’s the same thing.” On the contrary, he will overcome the evil thought and ensure that the limit of temptation is never crossed.
This limit is crossed as soon as there is agreement between the instinctual attraction and the will, the heart. A true Christian is one who is born again, one who sins no more and has a fearless warrior mentality, abhorring even the slightest degree of temptation.
1 John 3:5-6 Jesus was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whoever abides in him does not sin
If this limit is crossed, it is often because of a form of hypnosis or falling asleep of the mind that lasts beyond three or four seconds. This is why constant vigilance and monitoring are fundamental. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us: “ Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.”
A true Christian has crucified the flesh with its desires and passions, so that he no longer sins at all, neither in deed, nor in word, nor in thought, nor in imagination. This Christian is clothed with the Spirit of God and aspires, every day of his life, to be in conformity with the law of God in order to bear the fruit of holiness and to be pleasing to God.
We use the word “process” not in the sense of lying movements, but in the sense of the mortification of sinful passions, desires, and urges, which are crucified. According to these movements, the process lies in a sanctification with occasional sins or potential falls, while, from a biblical point of view, it lies in mortification.
So the real process is in crucifixion and mortification and not in sanctification with occasional sins. Matthew 5 and Romans 6 confirm that if the flesh is crucified by the believer, it is in a state of agony, which means it no longer sins at all. As a result, the Christian adopts a state of entire and complete holiness, in deed, word, thought, and imagination, all the days of his life, without sin. This state leads to eternal life in the process of victorious sanctification.
Ephesians 4:17-18 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles do, in the vanity of their minds: whose understanding is darkened, and they are alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart.
What the lying movements conceive of as a “process” by linking it to holiness is fallacious and ambiguous. This interpretation has indeterminate facets and suggests that the believer cannot completely get rid of his sins upon conversion. He therefore remains attached to his sins indefinitely on earth, thus living in an intermediate state of death and life.
“Growing in grace” really means growing in knowledge of the person of Jesus Christ and knowing God better according to human capacity, not growing by continuing to sin in order to be in grace.
2 Peter 3:18 Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.
Instead of being overwhelmed or wondering how to resist temptations all his life, a Christian does not ask himself these kinds of questions. The Christian is victorious and takes it as a joy to please God, by demonstrating his love for Jesus, in gratitude for what He did for him on the cross.
The Christian says to himself each day: God offers me sanctifying grace so that I may be without sin. If the Holy Spirit controls a person’s life, then his character, behavior, actions, and words will demonstrate this reality in accordance with love and outward and inward holiness.
But if this is not the case, “you will know them by their fruits.” Humility is one of the greatest virtues of Christian ethics, which must be combined with love, calmness, and gentleness in attitude and behavior toward one’s neighbor. On the other hand, arrogance and pride are deadly poisons, which are characterized, among other things, by anger and an impulsive temperament, a haughty attitude and an oversized pride in the way of being. The light of God’s voice resounds in man in different ways, inviting him to abandon his sins, and acts as a prevenient grace, which wants to destroy the infection spread in the soul and body.
It wants to illuminate the spirit of intelligence and understanding, in order to give life in Jesus Christ so that man begins a newness of life, through conformity to the law of God and in complete holiness, without sin on earth, to have a life pleasing to God. Eternal life is nothing other than the effect and fruit of this newness of life. But the goal is to be pleasing to God in recognition of his work on the cross.
Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin and become slaves of God, you have your fruit unto holiness, and the end eternal life.
Do not be afraid of temptations, otherwise they will be in a position of strength against you, inevitably and incessantly. It is essential to go through suffering, the mortification of the flesh and the crucifixion of its desires. Even if this process is painful and distressing for the flesh, it is this pain that preserves complete holiness. To refuse this reality is to deprive yourself of the victory over sin.
Accept this suffering in your life, and you will become what God desires: without sin on earth. This is the greatest sacrifice you can offer to God, the One who gave everything for us, and nothing less than the gift of ourselves. By enduring this mortification of the flesh, you fulfill your calling every day of your life on earth.
Seize this path, turn away from the world in all its essence and run towards the race that is intended for you in order to reach holiness as the end for eternal life.
Psalm 42:1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for you, O God.
John Wesley, excerpt sermon 8, the first fruits of the Spirit
Those who are in Christ, who abide in Him, have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
They abstain from all works of the flesh. They flee from adultery, fornication, impurity, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, enmities, strife, jealousies, wrath, disputes, divisions, sects, envy, murder, drunkenness, debauchery, and every intention, word, or deed that a corrupt nature brings forth. Although they still feel the root of bitterness in themselves, the virtue from above with which they are clothed enables them to trample it underfoot constantly, lest it spring up and trouble them, and each new assault they sustain is for them only a new occasion for praise, a new reason to cry out: ” Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
They now walk according to the Spirit; they submit their hearts and their conduct to him. It is he who teaches them to love God and their neighbor with a love like a spring of water springing up into eternal life. It is He who leads them to every holy desire, to every divine and heavenly disposition, until every thought of them is holiness to the Lord.
It is this Spirit who enables them to walk in all holiness of conversation. Their speech is always accompanied by grace and seasoned with salt, marked by love and the fear of God. No filthy word comes out of their mouth, but only such as is useful for edification, which may impart grace to those who hear.
And their study is also day and night to do only those things which are pleasing to God; to imitate in their outward conduct
He who left us an example so that we should follow in his footsteps; to practice justice, mercy and faithfulness in all their dealings with our neighbor, and, in all circumstances, to do all things for the glory of God
Excerpts from sermon 8, John Wesley, the first fruits of the Spirit, part III
But if it be true that all who are in Christ Jesus walk, not after the flesh, but after the Spirit, then it necessarily follows that whoever now commits sin has “no part nor claim in it.” At that very moment he is condemned by his own heart.
But if our heart condemns us, there is no doubt that God condemns us also: for “he is greater than our heart and knows all things”; and if we deceive ourselves, we cannot deceive him. Let no one presume to say: I have been once justified, my sins have been once forgiven me. This I do not know, and I do not wish to pronounce either for or against this assertion. Perhaps it is almost impossible, in view of the time that has elapsed, to ascertain with any certainty whether this was truly the work of God or whether you were only deceiving your own soul. But this I know with perfect certainty, that “he who commits sin is of the devil.” The devil is therefore your father and you belong to him, you cannot deny it, since you do the works of your father. Oh! do not flatter yourself with vain hope! Do not say to your soul: Peace, peace! for there is no peace. Cry out at the top of your voice, call upon God from the depths of the abyss. Perhaps he will hear your voice. Call upon him all over again, as a miserable and poor sinner, blind and naked. “And give no rest to your soul until his love, his forgiveness, is sealed to you again, until he has “healed your rebellions” and filled you again with “the faith which works by charity.”
Pour out your heart before Him, reveal your sorrow to Him, and earnestly pray to Him who “is able to sympathize with our infirmities,” to strengthen and fortify your soul, and make you unshakeable, so that you may not fall again in the future.
Matthew 6:6 But when you pray, go into your closet, and shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
Prayer is the oil that liquefies and strengthens the proper functioning and maintenance of holiness. In times of strong attacks and assaults of temptations, when you feel overwhelmed and exhausted, and you have the impression that you are going to sin, it is imperative to seek the face of the Most High in prayer to preserve your spiritual life and avoid spiritual death. Never neglect this means of grace, which comes to your aid in times of intense temptation.
Above all, you must not linger or try to reason with the flesh and its desires, because the more attention you give it, the more the intensity of the aggression increases. Thus, as soon as you feel that your fighting abilities are exhausted, it is crucial to turn to prayer. Without this posture, the flesh risks waking up, disorienting and destabilizing you under the assaults and attacks that can invade your thoughts and imaginations.
Taking spiritual warfare seriously is essential to maintaining a life of complete holiness and purity. Without constant vigilance and a keen awareness of this inner battle, there is no lasting or definitive victory. Holiness is not acquired by a single one-time act, but by a daily struggle against sinful temptations and desires. This warfare requires unwavering determination, active faith, and strict obedience to God’s law. Spiritual victory is a constant process that testifies to a life transformed and aligned with God’s will. This is what sanctification is. Only one who fights seriously and perseveres can truly put on holiness and walk in perfect communion with God.
It is imperative to have this mentality that contributes to the definitive victory against sexual sins. Take pleasure in seeing the flesh mortify itself, accept with joy the exaltation, the spiritual warfare, and the exposure to temptations. Rejoice in feeling the suffering and mortification, observe the crucified flesh with its passions and desires, while dominating the sinful temptations.
God wants to see how much you love Him in the battlefield by overcoming sinful temptations. That is why He has given you the faculty of freedom, so that you may choose His Law, with joy, within the dark kingdom of Satan, that is, this present world. To take sinful temptations with joy as an advantage and a perfect opportunity to glorify God, by choosing to obey His Law for His glory. I can have nothing but joy in seeing the flesh die, taking with it its demonic and abominable desires towards total destruction.
John Wesley, excerpt sermon 9, the spirit of servitude and the spirit of adoption
Are you daily at war with all sin, and daily more than conqueror? I acknowledge you as a child of God! Oh stand firm in your glorious liberty.
As a stranger and traveler on this Earth, I cannot but be happy and joyful to see my adversaries, the Devil with all his army, and my flesh with its demonic desires, provide me with these grand privileges and opportunities to glorify and worship my Heavenly Father.
In every exposure to sinful temptations, within the kingdom of Satan, I magnify His Law by mortifying the flesh and stifling its evil tendencies , in spite of the assaults of the flesh and the fiery allurements of the Devil which crash upon the shield of my faith.
This is what I call a wonderful opportunity on this Earth for a child of God, a Christian, to demonstrate his love to his Heavenly Father by joyfully experiencing death to the flesh and its demonic passions.
Do not project yourself into the distant future and avoid at all costs the trap of fatalism by adopting a defeatist mentality, wondering how you could be without sin for months, years or decades.
A fighter, when he faces his opponent, does not project himself into the future by worrying about the battles to come. He focuses on the present moment, prepares, trains and disciplines himself mentally to defeat the opponent of the day. He fights with determination and always keeps a victorious spirit for the battles to come , until the end, without failing, reaching Christian perfection by the sanctifying grace of the Spirit of God.
I cannot conceive of a successful war against sin without a daily relationship with the Holy Spirit, whether it be morning, evening, or throughout the day. Maintaining this relationship with the One who is the sanctifier, the guide, and the trainer is indispensable.
It is an absolute necessity in this world where we must remain pure and holy, without sin, doing the will and pleasure of the Father.
Do not forget that the devil prowls around like a lion seeking to devour. Let us be awake and pray without ceasing. Let us not give way to indolence or spiritual fatigue, but let us take up our cross daily.
“Give us our daily bread, and let your kingdom come.” Each day brings its challenges, but God’s grace is given in equal measure.
“Work now and pray that ye sin no more, but keep yourselves from the least transgression of the law of God . ” — John Wesley
You need to stay in prayer before God, no matter how long it takes. You must persevere until your strength returns and you feel that you can resume the spiritual warfare by being victorious in the face of the assaults and attacks to which you have been exposed. Draw your strength from the connection, from prayer with the Spirit of God.
He will strengthen you, He will comfort you, and He will give you what you need so that you do not sin and that you are victorious in these moments of strong attack. This prayer is indispensable. Without it, the state of affliction and intense temptation risks turning into sin and causing you to die spiritually.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
This type of prayer differs from daily prayer, because it seeks to shake God in moments of strong assaults and attacks of sinful temptations. You must absolutely devote as much time as it takes, without tiring yourself: perhaps 30 minutes, an hour, or even more, until you feel the strength necessary to resume the war in a position of strength in the face of temptations.
A man of God said, “He who is dead to sin has no will but the will of God as the goal of his life.”
Do not neglect morning prayer, for it prepares the heart to entertain and maintain the sanctifying grace of the Spirit every day. This is essential for victory. Ask Him for His guiding help to show you the steps to follow in case of danger of sin. Express to Him your desire to be a child who wants to please Him, without sin, neither in deed, nor in thought, nor in word, nor in imagination.
Take pleasure in speaking to the Father in the secret place: in your heart, in your room, in your tiny corner. This must become a habit for you. Ask Him for this daily bread to do His will. What is this bread? It is His Law, taught and directed by His Spirit, so that you walk according to His will. This prayer is vital, necessary, capital to remain focused, vigilant and under surveillance, because we are in constant war against the flesh, against the world and against demonic powers.
John Wesley
“May your Spirit lead me today and forever, that I may deny myself and take up my cross day by day and die to sins.
You therefore, man of God, watch to always hear the voice of
God. Watch to pray without ceasing; pour out at all times, in all places, your heart in his presence! Thus you will always be able to believe, always love and NEVER “commmit sin”
The Christian mentality, remember, no retreat, no renunciation. This is the law of the Christian victorious warrior in the face of sinful temptations. And since this is the law of the Christian, we will stand, fight, conquer and die. There is no room for temptation, there is no room for weakness. Only victorious and strong men can call themselves Christians. We fight like warriors in the battlefield.
The Christian preserves his heart, his will on all sides, with an impenetrable and unshakable shield. He is under its guard day and night. This is the source of strength and victory against sinful temptations, perpetually. A slight crack in the heart, the will, and the temptation risks turning into deadly venom, into sin. No matter what kind of temptation, the Christian rejects, eliminates and kills from the moment of its appearance, from the first fractions of sinful temptations.
Let the enemy know that free men have opposed his kingdom. Above all, it is not a question of what we have done, but of telling ourselves and remembering what Christ has done for us. And if an age comes, in the ages to come, an age of freedom, an age of eternity, go tell Jesus Christ that because of his work on the cross, we have fought. Because of his love and his stripes, we have overcome sinful temptations. And because of his resurrection, we have denied ourselves for his Name.
And if that day comes when my eyes shall see that resurrected King who gave his life for mine, my knees shall bow before him and my crown shall be laid at his feet. Glory be to him who is, who was, and who shall be from everlasting to everlasting.
Amen.
