Deuteronomy 6:6

Deuteronomy 6:5-6
You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. These words that I command you today shall be on your heart.

This passage highlights the first commandment, which constitutes the very essence of complete holiness. Jesus emphasized it as the foundation of the entire Law. This commandment acts as a source called love. This love is vital, for the Law, without love, loses its salutary value and its directive power.

Love for God is not an emotion, nor an abstract sentiment; it is a consuming fire that transforms the whole being. When a man loves God with all his heart, soul, and strength, sin becomes impossible, for love rejects everything that offends the Beloved. This divine love is the engine of perfect obedience: it purifies the intentions, sanctifies the thoughts, disciplines the imagination, and shapes every action in accordance with the Law of God.

Where love reigns, holiness becomes natural; where love is absent, obedience becomes burdensome, forced, and empty. The true child of God does not obey to escape punishment or gain a reward, but because his love makes him incapable of betraying the One who saved him. This is the highest form of holiness  a life where love fuels obedience and obedience proves love.
